The day will consider the range of strategies required to effectively manage and ‘turn around’ departments and improve people management skills whilst supporting your team.

10.00am. Evaluating the department and identifying areas for improvement

understanding the importance of key documents including those for inspection

recognising causes of weakness

utilising student voice and complaints- how to encourage, assess and respond

11.00am. Morning coffee

11.15am. Turning around areas of weakness

strategies to ensure an effective and consistent experience for all learners

the importance of high expectations and discipline

utilising a range of monitoring tools to track performance, recognise underachievement and motivate learners

effective, early intervention strategies

selecting appropriate pathways for learners; recognising exceptional circumstances and balancing the needs of student and school/college

understanding the leadership role

effective and productive meetings-observations and motivating to improve

collaboration and evolving as a team- setting the benchmark

managing your team: roles and situation including underperformance

supporting your team: understanding what they need and how you can help.

2.40pm  Creating a positive environment: raising aspirations, engaging learners, and improving recruitment and progression

how to introduce STEM careers to raise aspirations

exploring enrichment and enhancement: both within and out of school/college to develop skills and engage learners

exploring strategies to improve students confidence and effort

inspiring and supporting the team to take on additional responsibilities and develop initiatives
